If a person marries or changes their name before the change, the username cannot currently be changed. Since it is the same person, deleting the user and creating a new one is not the correct approach. This would no longer allow tracking of borrowed items. Changing the username would ensure data consistency. Analyzing withdrawals or user expenses is also not currently possible.
Thank you for sharing this, Christoph.
This request has been submitted before (CRW-I-908) and is a known limitation. The username serves as a key identifier in transaction history, which is why changing it would affect historical data integrity.
We've noted your additional context about expense tracking and analytics needs. If your primary goal is analyzing user withdrawals and costs, could you tell us more about what specific analysis you're trying to perform? There may be alternative approaches using the existing reporting features.
